Removing Negativity and Choosing You
As parents of children with disabilities, it’s easy to become overwhelmed by appointments, therapies, paperwork, and the constant responsibility of caring for someone you love. During uncertain times, staying positive can feel difficult but even small moments of peace can make a big difference.
Surround yourself with people who encourage you, uplift you, and remind you that you are not alone. Protect your energy by letting go of unnecessary negativity and the constant chatter that fills your mind.
Take a few minutes to step outside. Feel the sunshine on your face, listen to the birds, breathe deeply, and allow yourself a moment of calm. Those few quiet moments are not wasted—they are healing.
Most importantly, let go of the guilt. Caring for yourself does not mean you love your child any less. In fact, when you care for your own physical, emotional, and mental well-being, you are better able to care for the people who depend on you.
Self-care isn’t selfish. It’s necessary.
At Rise & Shine, we believe that when parents rise in strength, confidence, and hope, their children shine even brighter. Give yourself permission to rest, to breathe, and to choose yourself every once in a while.
You deserve the same compassion and love that you so freely give to everyone else.
